Sometimes paintings beget other paintings. I first did a full-blown acrylic scene where maybe there were a dozen trees in the composition. Then I decided to do a small study based on a few of the trees I liked best. I liked that a lot, so I tried this enlarged study of the small piece, and I switched it up to a pastel. I think moving back and forth between mediums from time to time helps to sharpen the saw. When you are done, you are left with a family of paintings.
